STM is busy being a hoon and entertaining a visitor.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

So I've decided to put an 1800 in...but my current insurer (CGU) won't let me do it. I am now trying to find an insurer that will let me do it. Anybody who has had experience with this can you tell me which insurance companies will do it and allow me to do the engine conversion?

i am another paranoid short nose owner... and have spent a while considering what i would do...
Although i think the 1.6 is a SWEET engine, the 1.8 would find a home in my Senorita.

My 2c.

If the weekend workshop is a goer, i would love to come and lend a hand (although i know SFA), and try to learn a bit for myself.

Good thing is last model Wolf ecu comes as a plug in for the 1.6 (and very early 1.8s) so you can easily tune for a 1.8 with your 1.6 loom.

Just 2 comments fo the paranoid: 1. there's nothing wrong with the 1.6 as such. The crank only tends to be an issue if it's been ham fisted by someone who isn't aware of the potential problem. 2. there are plenty of 1.6 engines out there with big noses :) (I'll have one for sale when I finally get around to removing it from the car  ).

Having said that I'd probably go a 1.8 if I had to do an engine swap anyway.

Did they say why not? Did you tell them this engine was a standard option in the later year model of the same car? ie, a factory-fitted option?

Told them all the facts and information and that it is a standard option for later year models, however for some reason they refused to do it as they consider it to be "a totally different engine" and will only insure if the engine is replaced with one of an original size. They consider it to be a different engine because of the displacement. They do not mind however insuring a long nose 1.6L. Anyway I'm still in the hunt for a new insurer that will cover me even with the 1.8 conversion...

Please don't shoot me for asking, but do they need to know the donk is going to be bigger???

And, do you need insurance for this fix anyway?

Alot of vehicle insurance companies dont like to touch cars with engine conversions Jules. If i don't tell them and have to claim something big I would hate it to be declined because of the engine conversion and then I would be totally screwed.

Shannons don't deal with under 25's :(
Just Cars seems to be strangely inconsistant with their pricing, but would be worth a try anyway.

A long time ago when I was under 25 I had insurance with shannons.

Only issue was that I was the only person under 30 who could drive the car, the bonus was I had a good excuse not to lend my mates the keys.
