Yep, SP's interior was an NB8B with brushed aluminium vent rings (and the gearknob maybe?)

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

OMG Garry,

so many fond memories chasing you & that car around mountain roads. That's real sad. I was thinking if it was your car. when I saw the Rest In pieces thread But really, there is only 1 Garry. I really refused to believe it. Garry's car? No chance. Must be another Garry. Took me until just now to confirm it for myself. I blame that on the white hair & old age.

Gary, I'm shocked. Somehow this just seems appropriate for a little reminiscing:

Yeah, that was an awesome road trip Brian. Just one of many in that car. There is an article I wrote in the archives somewhere about my Targa De Alpine club run too. I'm looking at getting an Elise but to be honest if I could buy a brand new SP I'd buy it in an instant. They are such great cars. Pity Mazda hasn't deemed fit to give me an upgrade path to stay in the MX5 fold.

You never know, if you want to replace it you could persuade an owner from the list to let a low km SP go?

You never know Garry, there is a good chance all your parts are being fitted to a donor NB8B right now and are about to be re-birthed as a one owner low km SP... you might be able to get it back in spirit !

I am looking at a stock SP at the moment for potential purchase.
If I keep the stock intake and exhaust, and just want a tune (Chiptorque is my option for now, as it is just half an hour away). What kind of power figures should I expect? I tried hard to search, but not too many results coming back.

Or do I need injectors changed also? My goal is to match the last SE I had with 150KW at wheels.

Also what is everybody's view of the stock SMB exhaust? Is it worth upgrading or pretty good as is. I rang up SMB, they said the SP exhaust is same as their aftermarket offering, except for the standard mazda CAT.

Now Black NB SP #31.

Intake, injectors and exhaust are fine for 150rwkw. Lachlan won't be able get it to that figure though with just a re-flash and he will be charging you close to the price of an adaptronic to do it.

A 3" exhaust and a 3" pod intake will make the car more drivable and with the T-Piece mod you might just be getting close but my guess would you will still be around 140rwkw and they are a pig compared to your SE as far as smooth drivability.

My silver car has the SMB exhaust and I love it. They are the sweetest sounding exhaust.

You know what you have to do…..Everyone does but its hard to take the plunge.
You need a new ECU to make that power and still have a nice drivable car.

Megasquirt, Haltech, Adaptronic, Motec, Allow for at least 3 grand. Sorry.

Richard.

I found this webpage on Chiptorque website. http://www.chiptorque.com.au/mazda-mx5-sp-turbo/
A dyno graph was given at 7.75PSI and produced close to 140kW at wheels already.
A sentence in the writing mentioned that it can be safely boosted more to 9.5PSI, although not shown on the Dyno graph.

That is why I am assuming an extra 2 psi is not hard to breech the 10kw gap in between SP and the SE I had. After all it is a bigger ball bearing turbo compared to SE's IHI unit, although the compression ratio is less suitable to boost.
