ND: Air conditioning, It's great!

Postby OMY005 » Sat Oct 29, 2016 7:29 pm

My first real day of driving around in Saturday morning traffic since getting my car. It was about 30° in Brisbane today, and I was amazed at how good the air-con is with the extra lining in the roof compared to my NA. My NA's air-con blew very cold air but was always fighting the radiant heat from the single layer top. Maybe it's a canvas vs vinyl thing also?

My 2015 ND 1.5L was great for 5y 2m, but then air blew warm. A regas with new o rings on the compressor lasted 2 weeks. Now looking at a new alloy twisted pipe that had a hairline crack for $250 -parts price only.

I feel the ND fan/blower has more omph than the NA/NB does too. I almost always have to have the NB fan on max where-as the ND is on half to 2/3 and blows harder out the vents. Wonder if the blower can be retrofitted to an NB...

Could someone custom make that pipe for less?

I reckon any competent aircon guy should be able to bend a bit of pipe to fit and braze on any connections for a lot less than $250.

I had the A/C in the NB8B serviced for the first time at about 15 years. I rarely used it as I prefer open windows. It was a bit weak by the time it got the service. Now it works just fine in the Central Queensland Summer heat. I only use about half speed but there is a lot of heat-transfer through the HT.
I mainly use it so I can listen to Richard Fiedler's weekly Interview program on ABC Radio as it is too noisy to hear with the windows down.
