I dont actually care about the argument, cars are cars, but what you want or need.

More just pointing out how silly Odd sounds with the weird sarcastic carry on from the start.

It's a Mazda 323 with the engine turned sideways, and leftover RX7 and 929 bits to connect it to the wheels.

It's a budget car, always has been from the start.
Mazda never set out to make the BEST driver's car, they set out to make the best VALUE drivers car.

If they wanted the best handling car it would have had a roof, and the rigidity that comes with it.

What a load of rubbish....
If used as a road car....you will never find its limit at legal speeds
If used as a race car....the fastest ones remove the windscreen and add a full tonneau

It’s not about a roof....;)
You can't demand respect....you have to earn it
NA8 for Fun, CX5 for carrying crap...;)

I've owned three MX5s, currently in an NC2, as well as one of the first GT86 in the country. All of them are wonderful driver's cars with their pros and cons.

Car folk are so tribal!!

Correct....drive what you want to drive....but you won’t find me whining that the CX5 doesn’t come with a soft top! Continually whining that the MX5 should be made with a fixed roof is just as dumb in my opinion and I’ll continue to post sarcastic comments to anyone who suggests it....Sorry....no need to get upset....just post sarcastic comments!

WHAT? Outlaw "whining" on the Forum? HERESY!!!
(Most of us don't have anywhere else that we can whine about cars. Wife's not interested, mates all drive 4WDs, NOBODY else cares!)

135M has got to be a contender if the 86 is being discussed?

135M is a sort of mini-German Muscle Car. It not at all like an 86 and the price point is miles apart.

It’s BMW 135i with a bit more power. Two doors, 4 seats...

The 86 seems to need a turbo to be attractive. The BMW has two. It seems to me that if you must stray away from the Mx5 towards other two door hard top and RWD cars, there must be some better options than the 86.

I would consider a used 350z or 370z. Heavy, but great motors and solid Japanese build quality. Whilst I love Porsches and Bimmers, German cars are great new but speaking from experience they can be expensive to run as they age. They are Ok if you are buying used at the right price and factor in the extra maintenance cost.

Z cars are Japanese muscle cars. They are more like a Mustang than an 86. They are definitely fun cars, but they are not really “sports cars”.

I think you'll find the M135i is 3L single turbo. The 1 Series M E82 is 3L twin turbo.

Yeah, I understand the argument. They are more like a grand tourer - but they are a 2 door, 2 seater roadster / coupe. They are heavy like a muscle car. But M135's are quite heavy too. If someone is considering a M135 as an alternative to an 86, then a Z car is an option too.

Spot on. I went from my old MX5 Clubman to a 350Z. In hindsight a huge mistake. The 350Z was nice as a tourer but that's about it. Only kept it for about a year as it was such a slug after the MX5. Should've kept the Clubman.

Cayman S is a logical step up I would have thought.

But for 5-10x the price is it 5-10x the car?
