I'm an "A"....86 isn't a car I'd ever thing about owning

I’m a B. I’d have preferred my RF to be a proper fixed coupe...preferably with a lift back and some decent load space!

Im a B. Bought mine because it was dirt cheap, and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Really dislike the chassis flex when you open the doors.

Not sure i would buy an 86 in their current state though. I had a couple of runs in one up Goodwood at the 2012 launch, and while it was a great little car, its power:weight leaves a lot to be desired.

For me the issue is legroom in the NB - six foot, but mostly legs.

I am a B and moved over from my good fitting RX7 to an ill fitting MX5 due to the running costs of a MX5 vs Rotary, the MX5s being economical track cars and lots of fun.

The MX5s have been great, but due to arthritis issues I can't last more than an hour or two in a MX5, so I was considering the option of an 86 in the hope the driver position would be much more comfortable, so it would be a usable everyday car.
The 86, with only extractors and good semi-slicks, that I run against in the Canberra hillclimb is 2 1/2 seconds quicker than my best in the NB8A.

Any long legged drivers have any experiences in touring in an 86 ?

If you haven’t dríven a M140i and are lookin at a Golf Gti I’d strongly suggest one, the difference in cabin quality is huge and the performance is another level. Should be enough time make up for the dubious looks!

LOL- I hated the 17" rims on my SP23 so replaced them with 16" rims from a CX3.
When I picked them up from the CX3 owner I was surprised to see that the two cars were very similar in outer dimensions but the CX3 had bugger-all bootspace compared to my SP23.

I was looking at a top-spec 120i in Brisbane on the weekend. It was a dark blue and I thought the darker colour disguised the clunky rear quarter a fair bit. Had nice wheels. When the time comes I will give one an extended drive for the sake of 'objectivity'.

Why the f#ck would I do that? It was nice having somewhere to put stuff with my BRZ though...and if the MX5 did a proper coupe there would be a place to put stuff. There’s barely enough room to put the weekly shop in an RF. Biggest bag that’ll fit would be an airline carry on (just).

Agree. To belabor my rant about the NB boot - If they had put the boot locking mechanism on the same side as the fuel filler there would be enough room on the RHS to drop in a full-size spare. Come to that, make the shape of the fuel tank just slightly different and it works as well.
Space utilisation should be a critical design consideration with any sports car. The really switched-on companies show this attention to detail in their designs.
