Has anyone got an accurate figure for the RF ND?
The best I can find is 1104kg so just into level 3 or up to ~5.5L capacity NA, still not quite enough for a 5.7L LS1...... :|

Interesting. Why aren't there more v8 NCs? Maybe the 1200kg weight is questionable.
Regards NDs, u can get a 5.3 litre LS in the US, so import one of those.

So is yours Warwick Gates' old car? I was wondering what happened to that one.

Not Warwick's (was that the grey Typhoon WA car?)
I know of 3 on the road; WA car, Qld car and mine.

I can't remember what colour it was when it won the Dutton. The last time I saw it was about 10 years ago when it was living in Melbourne and it was red.

Mine is red but it hasn't run Dutton. I thought the Perth one was grey and Qld one was blue. There aren't many around.

According to this the NC is 1179 kg. Not sure if this is the heaviest version fully optioned or not but if you can get it to 1200 kg you should be able to get a 6.0 LS in there. Also as far as I'm aware the engine has to be of the same year as the donor car or newer.

Yup, aware of these things. Problem is, not a lot of Engineers will sign off on such a swap.

Try Paul Bottomly or Bill Malkoutzis.

You just need to do it Bruce so I can see if its worthwhile for me to do down the track  I'll even stop by to lend a hand

No, you do it, so I can buy it for peanuts a few years down the track.
I'm not silly enough to spend bulk money on pioneering the swap.

 I think to do the swap and for it to not cost a fortune you would aquire a well priced NC with some mods to sell off all the parts and also buy a full donor commodore from the auctions to basically wreck yourself. I think it would still be an expensive proposition.

Another engine option for a v8 would be a coyote V8, at 5.0 it would easily meet the weight/displacement requirement. It definetely sounds better too although I think no one has attempted a coyote swap before.

Have you seen the size of the coyote V8. :!:
There is no way that goes close to fitting a MX-5 engine bay.

There was a thread on miata.net where someone said they looked into it but there was a problem where the water and oil lines come out on the left side as they take up the space the steering is located, but our steering in on the right so maybe there would be a chance :P

Tom at Bullet did a NC LS1 late last year or early this year, by memory QLD max cc was 5800 so LS1 just came in under that so QLD yes NSW NOOOOOOO.All to do with power to weight which im guessing every one knows

Yes, that might be another twist - we know about capacity to weight, but Engineers might consider power to weight.
Forget a Coyote, it's not any easy fit/does not fit, plus a used engine will be pricier than an LS. Remember the thread of the guy in Qld who reckoned he was going to fit a Coyote into an NB. He then posted a picture of an old Windsor (the engine would be older than the chassis which is a no-no).

I think power to weight should be fine in an NC. One of our 240z club members recently had his 240z engineered with a BMW E36 M3 motor, 240z are around 1040 kg's and the 3.2 M3 motor is around 320 hp I think.
