I hadn't thought about wrapping it - presumably that means taking the middle bit out, with the airbag etc. - is that scary? I mean - it is scary - I've watched a couple of videos of people doing it. It's scary, alright?

Spraying it doesn't seem like an option either.. without removing it I suppose.

It's either that or squinting I suppose. How big a blast shield do I need while taking out the airbag doober?

I’ve only got ones with Frozen characters on them. Won’t that ruin my image?

Roadrunner wrote:d4m0, There's a few posts about wrapping the emblem to get rid of the glare on the US forums. I never thought of wrap, being so intricate. Personally I am not a fan of the gloss black in the link below but perhaps a just slightly tinted 3M wrap would take the edge off the blinding glare. Or even a plain silver like the stock NB steering wheel has.
My sister in law is a sign writer, I might see what slightly tinted or coloured wrap she can get and get her to do the wrap job.
The reflection/glare when it hits is as bad as cars with aftermarket HID's angled wrong. Blinding.

Thanks RR - it’s good to know someone else suffers as I do. Bruce - take note.

If your sis-in-law has ideas on how to sort it, I’m very interested...

Try using an indelible marker on it, but wipe it first with a clean dry cloth.

No shield needed at all, if you do it the correct way.
Usually this involves unplugging the power to the detonators, and going through some process to discharge any stray current.
Of course, with modern cars it may also involve the ECU etc.
Short answer, dont stuff with it.

Ignoring the warranty aspect on a new car, there's also the whole bit about an airbag going off inches from your face, and how it will easily break bones, or your neck.

So yeah, dont play with undeployed airbags.

Why do you carry on about such a trivial matter. Anybody else would have put some tape over it or used a marker on it - all as suggested repeatedly.
There are more important things to be concerned about.
Perspective.

Tape or a marker may be ok as a short term fix but not exactly a permanent fix or pleasing aesthetically.
This isn't an isolated case, there's a few complaints about this around the net. I doubt Mazda would be any help so throwing around a few ideas that may create an aesthetically pleasing permanent result seems to make sense.

On the airbag...I've removed and refitted mine a couple of times by disconnecting the battery and discharging as much residual current by pressing the brake pedal for a while. But still scared the crap out of me doing it. No idea though if the ND has electrics that have anything else like a capacitor or something that temporarily stores some power "just in case". I'd look into it all very very carefully before even considering proceeding.

Yeah, I'm certainly disinclined. Makes for limited options, sadly.

Bruce, you are turning into a "grumpy old man" like me.
What could possibly be more important than the cosmetic appearance of your car.
Wait until you are retired - you will spend all day debating the relative merits of leaving the Car-bra in the boot or storing it until you need it.
(I'm NOT saying I do this, mind you)
