Z4's are certainly owned by enthusiasts - the car will also accomodate tall drivers. Re faults on Z4 or Boxsters- you have to check - you might expect higher repair costs but some folks just prefer a more up market car.

For Sure Mr Mortlock

the wife likes to be dríven. She only wants to be seen in it. But the son can drive manual

but I understand what you are saying....Auto is perhaps easier to offload If I really don't like it.

If there's an itch that's got to be scratched and a desire for something of status, it's hard to beat the sense of occasion an AMG SLK55 offers. The R171 models can be low $30k's now with excellent service records given the type of original owner. Just the sound of the engine can do it alone. No need to drive hard but it's more than capable, including mid 4 sec for the 100kph dash so not a girl's car. And for interstate touring it's a nice place to be.

I get to drive its predecessor sometimes, the SLK32, it's not half bad and the 55 is better.

If a Z4M coupe is that much, would you rather that or an R35?
Two completely different ends of the spectrum.

Ideally I'd have both, but I think the real answer is an ND and another $35k in a term deposit.

Nah....I'm less of a Nissan Guy than I'm of a European car guy.

and Ive been trying to avoid anything European for the last 30 years.

not that i'm suggesting a Nissan is as bad as a European car as far as reliability goes....but nothing attacks me to them.

All these new cars look amazing but get behind the wheel and the experience is so disconnected it’s just disappointing. Fine as a daily, great even but for fun no way, The MX5 is so hard to beat, an Elise is better but hugely more expensive and a Clubman even more so imho but too compromised to be anything other than an occasional delight. The last great driver z car was the original z3M coupe “breadvan”.

The "Z Coupe", which is really Z3 M Coupe, is well known as the Clown Shoe. It's a very cool car though, I would have one.

Hi.
The M is a very good car which had its share of problems. The most serious was the rear end which on some cars fell on the ground while being dríven. It was caused by the spot welding pulling out between the floor panel and the subframe thing that carried the differential.
My sister was living in the usa where the m was built and had friends who were very proud of their unusual car an m which was only bought because it was different. They were driving home one night and the car started making strange noises. They stopped and found the carrier and differential lying on the road apparently everthing was still attached tailshaft and drive shafts made a bit of a mess of the bottom of the gearbox. They had it repaired using a kit developed in the usa and sold it soon after.

That problem is well documented. The cars are way too rare and expensive in Australia.
Note that in the UK (and I think the US), they also got the same body shape (hatch) but not in M spec (basic motor, etc) so they're a bit more common.
