SARS reared its ugly head in 2002/2003. Became extinct 2004 due to draconian public health measures throughout Asia that we are just starting to see for this virus. It was not as contagious as COVID-19 but deadlier, both these aspects greatly helped in its containment, and us, (as) it never got here.

A viable? vaccine produced 2017?, therefore it has never been tested.

Corona viruses are difficult so don't hold your breath on a vaccine soon.

And lets not talk about mutations or a second or third wave of infection. We need to keep our foot on the neck of this thing or it will get away.

SARs (killing 9% of infected) was so close to 9-11 that global travel was at such a reduced rate compared to 2019/2020. It was very easy to contain it because international travel was low.

MERs hit in 2012. Killing 34% of those infected. Most would have never heard of it. Reared its ugly head in the middle east. Again low travel rates in and out of the middle east infection area. So again easy to contain and stave.

This old 2% (and dropping quickly) killer is a joke. The hysterical govt response has been caused by hysterical uneducated public. In months many will look back and think why was their life upended in such ways.

As for vaccines. It aint gonna happen. The first known SARs-CoV hit in the 1960s. We've have five hits of these high end virus since. We didnt go crazy like 2020. We treated it like a bad flu. Isolated the venerible and got on with life.

I would suggest that there is no chance of closing down all businesses because our society would stop functioning. The realisation maybe has not sunk in that an enormous amount of damage has already been done and many people will not have jobs because the employers business has collapsed to say nothing of the debt the Govt will have. This is not the Philippines where the President says shoot the people that don't cooperate. There is a plan and most people will do the right thing but we do need sensible messages that stand up to a bit of scrutiny- we all watching and Aussies can ignore authority if they are not handled properly.

I think the federal govt is doing & has done a good job. They followed what the world health authorities said to do, in order to slow the infection curve so that the medical infrastructure can cope.
Look at New York now which failed to act early enough & now can't cope. It's certainly no joke, & will get worse.

Stage 4, we are only in stage 3 where the leaders ask, beg and cajole for compliance. Stage 4 will be, they will shoot you if you disobey the rules. Get used to rules.

It all happened after I woke up from my lie down.

Sadly, doesn't seem to matter what the health authorities tell everyone, some people just won't listen. On my morning walk this morning and saw one 4WD with a trailer loaded with camping gear and a few minutes later another 4WD with one of those hideously expensive glorified trailer tent thingys. So much for staying at home over Easter!

Let the local Police deal with them at the campsites.

Vic is certainly cranking it up. Camping is verboten and you can bet people will be fined and told to go home if they start lobbing up along river banks and in the bush. I reckon the Police will pull drivers up with caravans and off road trailers, The driving of the car for enjoyment is done for Victoria and no more teaching L plate drivers whilst this crackdown is in place.

Nothing wrong with any of that.
