When you turn your car on, does it return the favour?

All-conquering MX-5 aside, Mazda isn’t a marque you’d readily associate with sports cars.

Interesting catch up on Mazda models many of which are not known to the average motorist. I have had to explain to guys / gals what an MX-5 is - so many pay little attention to cars.

Sadly the all conquering Mazda 1500 SS was not mentioned at all.

I wish people would put a description in their posts rather than relying on cryptic clues. Most of the time I just skip by them.

One of the guys I went to uni with in Adelaide had a turbocharged RX3 that was frigging awesome.
We easily smoked a 911 at the lights during a lunch run which impressed the hell out of me.
Back then, few were aw
Unfortunately he was constantly switching between his two junkyard turbos (uni-student poverty), they needed constant DIY rebuilds.
I hope he kept it, would be a great car with a modern, reliable turbo, definitely worth more than he paid for it back then.

Agree with bruce's comment above too, normally I wouldn't have bothered reading the post and only did so because I've got a few minutes to browse the forum. It was definitely worth a read.

I test-drove a '67 1500SS in about 1970. I wish I had bought it. I thought they were a great looking car and while not all that quick they were a good drive compared to the other local offerings at the time. There was a local one similar to the attached photo below. Light metallic green with chromies and moon-domes. It looked terrific.

A mate had a white 1500 SS as his first car in the late 1980s - motor was a bit tired & required a rebuild not long after purchase, but it went fairly well for a car of its time. Steering was pretty sloppy, but at least body styled by Giugiaro, then working for Bertone.

I thought that 1500 is a funny looking Mazda. Oh, it's a Fiat!
Looks nice in a boxy, cruiser way.

Just to put the record straight this was designed by Guigaro (you know that he did the Mangusta, Alfa GTV, Lotus Esprit, Golf 1 etc etc, probably the greatest living car designer), It was designed as a replacement for the Guilia but Alfa did not take up the offer. Would have made a very pretty Alfa,
especially if they had made a 2dr. Not counting the rotary Luce, which was a bit ill proportioned in my mind.
