Any old buggers here? I’m back in a 5

After quite a few years without a 5.....

I’ve just placed an order for 2021 White ND Roadster GT.
So MX5 number 5 is on its way.

I’m now divorced and based in Toowoomba, so looking forward to having some drives with the QLD Club and particularly the Darling Downs Chapter.

Winggggz and dodgy days may be a thing of the past ?

Cheers

Wayne

What's considered old on this forum?

I'm hoping at 58 I'm not there yet:)

Yeah, I used to tell myself that too, Lucmor but I noticed I was becoming increasingly invisible to anyone under 50.

I'm almost 69 and have accepted that I am an "old bugger". You sort of become visible again around 70 as you acquire a 'Granddad' or 'Grandma' persona and some people will offer you a chair or actually treat you with a bit of respect (a grey beard helps).

BRUCE !!!

When I say Old Buggers... I mean old members from the Original QLD Dodgy Days

Methinks they've all disappeared.

I've been to a few QLD dodgy days, but I don't think they were "the originals" and I don't think we've met, so I don't think I qualify.

Magpie used to organise semi-regular dodgy days out at his place in Ipswich (is that original or a copy?), but he doesn't on the forum these days.

hes probably referring to members from 15-20 years ago. 99MXV probably referring to dodgy days when they did engine rebuilds at the gold coast with super hot chicken wings. but he would be around your vintage

Dodgy Days originated from Melbourne by a few bored members getting together & documenting thier dodgy work. We are talking around 2003 or 2004 around that time, perhaps even earlier
Then Sydney started having quite a few of those days but QLD took it to another level.

a lot of us original members actually joined in June 2001 when it was called Aus-Cartalk and someone started a mx5 section. the was also a Ford section on the same forum.

this forum probably had its hey day from around 2004-2010 very close community. a lot of us were Mx5 car club members in those days. In fact 99MXV was the club Captain of the MX5 Club of NSW. Maybe even el-Presedente

Facebook has killed a lot of forums & blogs.

I don't want to get too far off topic here, but people not participating in the discussion is what has killed forums, not FaceBook. There are about 10 users here keeping this thing going, everyone else just reads.

But thanks for the insights into the origins of Dodgy Day. While I've done some dodgy work, I've only been around for I think 7 years so I'm not and "old bugger" :D

Dodgy days sounded interesting.

Assume there are no more dodgy days or dodgy builds then?

There used to be tech nights, but they were something different I think.

STAN THE MAN.... I was only in the commitee in Sydney mate but did manage lead some runs in QLD when I moved north. I still stay in touch with Jules who is back in Sydney now and still has his Yellow NA in great nick...

I’m so pumped to get my new ND in a couple of months. I drive the ND 1.5 on release and loved it, but the 2 litre will be a lot of fun.

I’ve already bumped into a darling Downs club member at a country pub and pestered him about his mint NC. In fact it was probably the reason I jumped onto another 5.... just a bloke out on a drive stopping at a cool pub for a beer on a hot day.

Cannot wait !!!

Its not meant to exclude anyone if that's how Ive come across, if there was another dodgy day....you wouldn't be any less welcome for being a little newer. . perhaps a better word would be "old timers" .
