Postby ralt » Tue Dec 21, 2021 10:22 am

HI.
The MST mk 1 is available and what a great piece of kit. A friend of mine who has always been an escort tragic with plenty of money is about to order one. He explained to his wife "you only live once"
ref: mst website and a drive on The late brake show.

thats a little harsh.

its a raw car.... youth of today would have no idea what that means....Its certainly not something i could afford....but you never know . A bug eye sprite,of all cars, was the most exciting cars Ive ever dríven. It was a Tasman Targa Ralley car , had won its category a number of times over the years. It was a hoot to drive.
Thats what F33nix is currently based on. I took inspiration from it.

If I put my head out, will you bring yours back out?

Sure a well built mk1 Escort with over 200hp would be a great car to own and drive, I'd love one. But not at a *starting* price of AU$160,000! FFS!!

For that sort of money I could buy or build a better car than that.

The world is full of very expensive cars that I can't afford, but that doesn't make them any less awesome.

If I had the wherewithal, I'd have a Singer 911 - a boy can dream.

But what if you could have a car that is just as awesome as the MST for $60k? Its not the goodness I am concerned about, it's the value for $. Here are some Escorts that could be legally road registered in Aus, unlike the MST:

https://www.my105.com/ListingDetails/title/ford-escort-mk2-tarmac-rally/p/1/k/escort/id/23015
https://www.my105.com/ListingDetails/title/ford-escort-mk1-rs2000/p/1/k/escort/id/22752#lg=1&slide=6

Are they $100k worse than an MST? No way.

The Escort doesn't tickle my jibblies, so I'm in no position to judge it in any guise.

The value of it is in the eye of the beholder. Sure it can be done for less, but if this is exactly what you want, you have the money and not the time - then this is the solution.

I don't just mean the MST, the logic holds for any of these resto-mods, or any expensive toy car. They all cost more than they would if you were to do it or even commission it, but there are plenty of people out there with the money and the desire that aren't going to look into building the car on their own or have the contacts to get it done. Places like MST provide a one stop shop. And if they've judged the demand correctly they'll do well.

You gotta pick a car people spend money on, MX-5 owners are all tight bastards!

I reckon you could make some money doing Toranas though! Actually, maybe not - they cost a fair bit as rusted shells these days!
