Good MX-5 mechanic in Brisbane / Logan / Gold Coast

Postby Bravo203 » Mon Mar 28, 2022 1:47 pm

Hi
My 2007 NC has developed a tappet rattle. My usual mechanic said he's not equipped to handle it - access to cam followers. So, would anyone in S/E Qld know of a good mechanic who can service the tappets for me without ripping me off?

Cheers

Good move, there seem to several potential sources of 'tappet noise' other than tappets which the NC's MZR engine doesn't have. Some are cheap fixes, unless you have drawn the short straw (rod knock :( ). The big board (Miatanet.com) will have more info, do a search there.

Lining up a good/honest mechanic seems like a smart move, anything on the Qld MX5 Club website? Otherwise I am sure someone will chime in here (I presume you have already searched on here).

Good luck, and keep us informed, we could do with more NC user experiences.

It's probably further than you'd like to go, it seems you're hunting Southside, but Automotive Plus at Brendale have been Mazda and MX-5 specialists for a long time. I think they would be a good option if you can manage the time to get to the Northside of the Brown Snake.

Thanks ManiacLachy,

Now I'm retired, I don't usually travel that far unless we're going on vacation! :D
But I've seen a few recommendations for Automotive Plus on this site. Might have to pack a week's rations and make the trip.

I'm actually a mechanic myself (back in the day before computers) but I don't have access to cam followers and I don't want the expense of buying them. Plus, those guys would have the job done before I could get the cap off my first stubby.

Thanks again for the recommendation.
