Well if you are the problem you are not alone. I agree with every thing you have said. Your comments are the most comprehensive and insightful in this thread, IMHO. Every aspect you have mentioned pretty much explains why I am not planning on entering the MX5 Cup.

Not so much a minimum time as such, but plenty of classes (right up to F1 !!) impose a maximum variance between fastest and slowest qualifying times. The issue then becomes at which end of the field do you make the cutoff if the majority of cars sit at the "slow" end of the field ? ? Allow one very fast car to compete, then exclude all the slow guys ? Or limit the fast guy ?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it is an easy task and n easy answers to setting up a "one make" race category where all cars aren't identical / in the same class.

Well its happened. Two cars have blasted the mx5 cup minimum lap time of 1.05 at W.P today both in the 1.03s. What happens now with this rule ?

Were those times legit? If so, hats off - but I also noted some of the Pulsars in the same race running in the 1:07s... So thinking there may have been a problem with the Dorian loop :)

Unfortunately not legit, must have been some timing issues on the last lap as I definitely don't have the car or the talent for that time. Had a great day racing with Cameron and plenty of other good battles in the field. Happy to have done a pb despite not being able so to get a win after leading in each race for a few laps.

sadly no 3's reckon it may have timed us from the Pulsar start line on the last lap

cracking fun racing and don't reckon we were further than 2 seconds apart all day and no paint swapped. looking forward to the videos

Looks like the race 3 results on Natsoft have been corrected.
Cameron and Verne are both given fastest laps in the 1:06's, and the fastest Pulsar in the 1:10s, which seems much more sensible.

Here ya go Dennis.

Race 3 from Sunday, as seen by me from way down the grid.

A couple of points first.

Due to time constraints the MX-5s and Pulsars were put together for their last races, with the MX-5s first off the grid, and the Pulsars starting 10 seconds later. I didn't actually see any Pulsars on the track, just a broken one at turn 10, and some other debris. You will also notice the light is starting to fade.

We were using raceceivers, so the drivers can get notifications directly from race officials. We had been told for recoveries they would try to impose double-yellows with a 60 km/h speed limit rather than red flagging a race. That is what happens in this race with a damaged Pulsar stranded just after turn 10.
So at about 4:45 I slow to 60(ish) km/h from turn 9, then a few seconds later they announce the limit is lifted, and I have to accelerate back to race speed. Meanwhile the group behind me doesn't have to slow down and catches up a lot of the gap. Grrrrr!

Enjoy!

Nice one David. I saw you also encountered the pulsar rear hatch glass in turn 4 on the second last lap. Your car looks really quick through the top and the fish hook.

Those Pulsar drivers play rough with each other don't they!

Gee thanks. Meanwhile you turbo guys are much faster everywhere else. Yay :-)
I did a practice day a few months ago and worked out the car was faster through 4 and 5 if I used 4th gear rather than 3rd, but in the excitement on Sunday I forgot all about that and went back to my old ways by using 3rd. Sigh, this driving stuff is hard!

So now, where's your video Verne?

This driving thing is hard David. Still have lots of entrenched bad habits I need to kick like making the most of the fact I have two hands.Having some issues with my videos at the moment.

I stumbled across this topic and thought it was worth continuing.
The last post was Sat Jul 02, 2016 8:26 am at the end of 41 pages. Obviously I haven't read it all.
The Subject is a good one to continue IMO.
I will post here later today.

Bought a NB8A just after Xmas, joined the club then went away to Tasmania for February.
On the way home dropped in at Wakefield Park on 5th March to have a look at the track day and Round 1 of MX-5 Cup.
My intention had been to do track days with the NB and maybe Targa Tasmania 2018.
When I saw those Cup races I thought yeah, racing would be good.
I didn't know much about MX-5s at that time, nor track days and supersprints.
In the 1970s it was one car on the track and 1 lap at a time – and gravel rallies.
In April I did 1 supersprint in the NB and 1 track day and looked into the rules and reg's for MX-5 Cup.
Figured out I would need to do some serious mods to the NB to be competitive with even the back of the field. I made inquiries and learned I would be better off with a NC if I didn't want to turbocharge.
So in May I bought a track prepared registered NC as I also want to use the car on the road and still want to do some tarmac rallies.
I did 1 hillclimb, 3 track days and 4 supersprints in NC and got it log-booked, got Cams racing licence and made it to Round 4 of MX-5 Cup.
