Help! Significant Brake Pressure Change

Postby Gazbag » Sun Apr 30, 2017 10:50 am

Hey guys,

Don't have a lot of experience in brakes so would really appreciate any advice.

I've just changed over my pads and rotors on my track NB8a. My old set up was EBC Yellowstuff (fitted new) with some quite old slotted rotors that were on the car when I bought it. My new set-up is a fresh set of EBC Yellowstuff and brand new DBA rotors.

I changed the rears before a track day at Sandown with no issues. After Sandown I've now replaced the fronts but there is now a significant change in brake pedal feel in that it takes quite little pressure to lock the front brakes. Previously, I could brake with a lot of pressure without any fear of locking. Ie. I'd have to really stomp on the brakes to even get close to locking them.

My question is, is it fairly normally that a lot of pressure is not required to lock the brakes and that I likely had a poor brake set-up (likely shot rotors given I'm using the same pads) before OR is it possible I've messed something up in changing the fronts? How much pressure or pedal travel do you guys have apply to lock your brakes?

Again, thanks for any help!

Did you bleed the brakes and or replace the fluid? How did you bed the pads in?
