Lightweight Car Tralier Hire

Postby chrismacca » Fri Feb 28, 2020 7:25 pm

Hi all, thinking of entering some club events in my NC2 folding hardtop and wondered if anyone had experience with hiring a trailer from the Gold Coast? I have a RAV4 AWD with a 1500kg towing ability, braked.
Any recommendations out there?
Cheers

If it's road registered why not drive it?

Tread carefully. I did two clutches in my 2.5 Liberty, trying to tow a trailer/car just under the weight limit. Also factor in what goes with trailering a race car - all your tools etc, that can add to the gross weight and strain on the car regardless of whether they are in the trailer or tow car.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

NB SE - gone to the dark side (and loving it 8) )

I would lend you mine,it is 750kg net and 2,500 gross (electric brakes), therefore not a lightweight. However it tows beautifully fully loaded and the Amarok does not really even know it is there...

Hire trailers tend to be solid and pretty heavy as they have to endure a lot of abuse from renters.

Even with the lightest trailer you could buy you're probably going to be right on the tow limit of your RAV4.

Towing a heavy load with a marginal setup can be pretty hair raising, stressful and way more tiring than towing well within the tow cars capacity.

I probably wouldn't tow it with the RAV4, especially on an 800km trip.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I’ll rethink it now. And thanks for the offer of a loan trailer!
Cheers to all.
