Front number plate holes fix

Postby zacMX5aus » Sat Dec 23, 2017 11:37 pm

Hi,

I recently bought an offset number plate bracket hoping to relocate my plate but have noticed the existing plate is screwed directly into the bumper so would leave me with two holes once the plate is moved... Has anyone filled and painted the holes? What was your process and what does the end result look like?

Cheers

you can find any number of diys for this sort of thing. Basically you would fill it, rub it down and paint it- it might be hard to match. If they were clean holes maybe you just put a rubber bung in- no one will notice.

Does anyone have a pic of the plate mount holes? I have a Eunos and want to bin the ugly black original mount. I'm guessing I'll have to drill some holes or hopefully they are there factory?

You can remove the original bracket & remount the bracket upside down using the original mounting points so that the plate is located in the mouth.

Mine was done, but the bumper was completely resprayed. The old plate holes cannot be seen.

No pics handy, but the Aussie bracket is just two big L shaped bits of steel, one end goes in the mouth and bolts to captive bolts in the top, the other end just sticks out about 20mm in front of the bumper.

IIRC, this is the bracket used in the ADM:

Thanks for that. I bought it today from Mazda, along with new dipstick and bumper to stop the clutch pedal clicking. Filling the holes on the bumper might not be so easy being made of urethane. :(
