Source for ignition lead/plug wire components?

Postby The American » Mon Mar 29, 2021 7:27 pm

I'm putting remote mounted coils in The Black Rat (2003 NB) and this will require a set of ignition leads that are much longer than standard. I want to make up a set that use the 'pencil' that the factory units have. Does anyone have a good lead (pardon the pun) on components for make your own ignition leads, particularly the pencil section and matching crimp?

I once had a set made up on the spot by an auto electrician that specialised in race cars using the existing spark plug tubes and all the rest new. It ended up costing less than the components.

Sorry, they were in Victoria. Best part was that they had Jack Brabham's Repco F1 car in the workshop at the time

I’ve pulled my stock set apart to look at them and this looks like it could be done if I stick with 5mm wires - I would just need to track down two more tubes (mine is an NB2 that has coils sitting on two of the plugs, so there are only two stock tubes to cannibalise).

Thanks 93_C - I had a look and could not see the components there, but I have found the plug boot/tubes on the Top Gun and NGK catalogues (and the coil ends are common). Getting there - just need to work out if stock size wires (5mm) are going to be adequate.
