Eunos 1.6 MPG issues

Postby viragmakwana » Tue Mar 30, 2021 10:52 pm

Just got my 1.6 running and on the road, bought the car 3 months ago and has been off the road for 12 years. I took it for its first run, definitely put my foot down a few times but im getting around 18mpg. Should that be correct if im hammering it, ive read it should be more in the high 20s. Anyone have a couple suggestions on what to check/ test to see if theres anything which will improve this figure. Cheers

One thing which I recommend you do urgently, is to replace all coolant hoses, they are fairly expensive and some are a PITA to change, but not as expensive or as much a PITA as having to overhaul or replace the engine or at least the cylinder head if one blows at the wrong time or place. Ask me how I know. As far as excessive fuel consumption problems go, I would be checking firstly for fuel leaks, then the injectors, and for oil dilution with fuel due to worn piston rings.. Put a drop or two of oil onto some blotting paper if fuel is present it will show as a lighter colour ring around the spot of oil. Has the car previously been super or turbo charged? if so it might have higher volume injectors installed, check for wet sparkplugs, that would indicate this.

I would also check the O2 sensor (it is in the list posted). I have had them fail and the fuel consumption goes very high. It should throw an error code though. Have you checked for any OBD errors?

Came here to say this, except that they often don't throw an error code

Would it just be best to replace it anyway just to be sure?

No OBD on the 1.6
I remember ages ago STM was complaining about poor fuel consumption and he found out his air filter was totally plugged with leaves.

Yh, the working life of the single wire oxy sensor in the NA6 was meant to be 60,000kms

The (non-OBD) diagnostic port on the NA6 is meant to throw a code for a faulty O2 sensor. Trouble is that it hardly ever does
