Simon's KF TX3

Postby Atmo » Fri May 22, 2009 4:15 pm

Hi all,

I know it's not an MX5, but it does have a BP under the bonnet and I thought it might be interesting to compare my little front driver to its RWD cousins.

Mods include:

Engine - genuine 330,000km on the clock, mild grind cams with adjustable pulleys, revised inlet pre-afm with shielded pod filter and CAI (makes 80-85kw atw)
Exhaust - off the shelf extractors, 2 inch high-flow metallic cat, 2 inch press bent exhaust with glass packed resonator and semi straight through glass packed muffler
Gearbox - standard 5 speed, Exedy Sports Tough clutch, no LSD
Suspension - off the shelf King Springs f+r, standard shocks, Whiteline camber bolts front (-1.5 deg camber), standard sway bars f+r
Brakes - standard with Lucas pads
Wheels - 16x7.5 DTM Fins (heavy!)
Tyres - Hankook RS2 Z212 in 205/45-16

Lap Times:

Calder - 1:17.9 (only run there once without revised cams/inlet/extractors/pads)
Sandown - 1:37.8
Winton - 1.49.2

Hey guys,

To my knowledge, all non-turbo KF TX3s were front wheel drive, while all turbo KF TX3s were 4WD. There wasn't a turbo front wheel drive version available from the factory, but there are plenty of front wheel drive TX3s now getting around with BPT conversions.

Nice car, sounds like a great spec. The times are quite impressive too.

I'm a huge fan of these little things, espcially the turbo. The TX3 was a giant killer in its day, it did amazingly at the early bathurst 12 hours, Kent Youlden finishing 2nd once. Also did pretty well at Targa with Dick Johnson before the turbo blew.

Surprising the gearbox didn't go out first ey, rumour has it the turbo in Johnson's car was running 20psi.
