Hey Don and Fran
I had a look at your Pictures, I like the fresh air dam above the mirror, I haven't seen any of those down under here in Aus.

Every year I hear about the deals gap meet up, mostly on the realbig list. I'd love to attend one day.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

The scoop is a life saver here in the summer when it gets hot & humid. Pulls air in & directs down to the floor boards.
Heres link if you like to check it out.

Same!!!

I read, though, that it has some very particular hazards for those doing the stereotypical weekday/late night run - namely logging trucks and large mammals on the wrong sides of the road (or is that the right side of the road). You get the drift.

The Mini Club in the US have a mega meet there once a year as well.

Haven't there been some Aus MX5 Club members who made the trek? Seem to recall an old thread from way back...

Good turnout.
I'd love to do it one year too.

You wouldnt want to go there with a standard 5 though.
You'd never find it amongst all those others!

Some years ago, one of my brothers-in-law bought his girlfriend a Smart.
A few months later he had to go to London on business and while he was there, he saw something about the first meeting of the English Smart car club, so he decided he'd go along for a look.

Well, over 1,200 Smarts turned up and caused absolute traffic and parking chaos.
I know Smarts are small, but 1,200 of them take up a lot of space!

Update
I live about 10 hours drive from there so only got to go once so far.
Thinking of moving to South Carolina in a couple of years so will be a LOT closer,

look me up if your comming to the US and have a couple of days to spare.
OR get a hold of some of the locals near the Dragon on Miata.net ....... I'm sure they would be more than happy to meet an Aussie

best if you can do it on a weekday a lot less traffic.

On the Miata weekend http://gapmiatas.com/ they have about 400 cars there
but they have drives all around the area, not just the on the dragon
they call them spirited drives ...... holy sheet they are crazy I couldn't keep up with them

First time on the Dragon, about 3 miles in... I got seasick!
It is really really twisty and moderately flat no large hills to climb in the 11 miles

Semis have been banned completely from using the road
Coppers were not a bother ...
large mammals ... saw a black bear on the road
motorbikes Harley's galore on the weekends just to slow you right down

and

They do still drive on the wrong side of the road

Tempting. I've got family in Tallahassee that I'm meaning to spend some time with next year. The timing sort of fits ...

Planning on doing this road 2 weeks before the Indy 500. Few days in Miami, then run the Gap (in some sill hire car) then Indy for the Qualifying and Race :D

Ill jump on M.net closer to the date and see if there is anyone local there for a meet up
