Waterfall Way Coffs Harbour to Armidale NSW

Postby Cruisin Newy » Wed Sep 11, 2013 6:18 pm

Hi all,

Just done a road trip along the Waterfall Way from Coffs Harbour to Armidale NSW. The drive and roads excellent. The drive from Pacific Highway south of Coffs Harbour up to Bellingen then onto Dorrigo , Ebor to Arimale was a good easy drive. Did get stuck behind a Ford Laser with overloaded trailer for 10 kms Bellingen to Dorrigo but got a a chance to look at waterfalls on roadside. Otherwise good traffic.

Things to do along the way..

Bellingen Old Butter factory for caffeine and visit speciality shops

Dorrigo. cafe for light snacks that is claimed to be worlds small motorcycle museum...

Ebor. Waterfalls just 500mtrs out of town

There is more to do but was there for the drive...lol :)

Yes, that's an excellent drive. Very scenic and nice driving roads too.

Next time, if you have an extra hour and a half to spare, it's definitely worth taking the Orara Way up to Grafton, and then the Armidale Road to Ebor. The 44km section between Nymboida and Dundarrabin snakes through the Chaelundi and Nimboi-Binderay National Parks and is one of the best driving roads I've experienced. Superb!

Was up that way in 2010 4WDing around the area in my Jimny.

Did you see the field full of old steam trains on the outskirts of Dorrigo ? That was so surreal when we came across it, there's like 30 of them just lined up.

Buckshot,

Sorry missed the trains........, but was a great road trip.......after doing the waterfall way went on to do back roads from Tamworth to Manilla onto Gunnedah via bottom of the lake Keepit dam. Then headed south across the Breeza Plains to Quirindi then down New England to just south of Singleton and back way thru Vineyards to newcastle.

Home enough to spit n polish the Mx5 on the Friday and head down on Saturday via M1, Galston Gorge for Presidents Picnic in concourse (didn't win) lol but lookers liked but not the judges lol at Ebernezer and home the Putty Road. Total 1650 kms in a week.. Great time...

I drove the Armidale Road in December 2010 from Dorrigo to Grafton... super excellent, though there were some nasty potholes to look out for then, being a heavy summer of rain... Guran have you dríven it more recently? Looking forward to driving it again some time.

Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and Skywalk is worth a visit and a bit of a hike while you're up there.

We gave those roads and tourist spots a bit of a workout at Easter during the NSW/QLD get together at Grafton organised by Kuntry Kuzzin. There were a few patches under repair but that should all be good now...until the next heavy rains.

My one and only drive of the Armidale Road was in October 2012. It was very well sealed, no potholes that I can recall. There was one very short section of loose gravel covering a couple hundred metres, which I imagine is now sealed again.

last time i was at dorrigo, they had a little gravel section and small wooden bridge out the back end. was about 4 years ago. maybe heavy rains took the bridge away and they of tarmac and a new bridge.
