Adaptronic owners thread

Postby Okibi » Mon Nov 18, 2013 5:24 pm

Thought i'd start a thread for us Adaptronic owners.

Hopefully Andy will subscribe to this topic, I think it'd be good to keep all the MX-5 specific info together to make set up easier for others.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I'm still waiting on a couple of bits before I install my adaptronic

So far I have:
Adaptronic Select ECU
3 way mac valve
Innovate LM-2
ID725s

Been pondering getting a higher resolution crank plate like the FM 36-2 or the Protoge 36-1 that Timmmmah used

I have a select running my nb8c motor in a na.

It was tuned by Andy himself.

I also have a select in a 93 na8.
set up for alpha n tune
360cc injectors (for memory)
Itbs direct fire on Toyota cops
Sequential injection (as pet factory)

A note for new players, be very careful if your continuity testing pins for a direct fire conversion, be extremely carful not to open up the pins or you will get an intermittent connection issue!

adaptronic also run a forum if your having trouble, or looking for updates etc.

Yeah it's very good, that's why I've held of having a thread here but lots of MX-5 owners who're looking for advice on an ECU will look here first. The megasquirt thread is great for answering questions and building a support community, why not do the same for forum sponsors Adaptronic.

I expect a lot of Andy's posts will just be links to answers on his own forum, but that's cool with me.

Don't forget to check out the Adaptronic forum too, http://www.adaptronic.com.au/forum/index.php, Andy's always very prompt and helpful with his replies but it's a great idea to collate all MX5 specific knowledge here too, might save a lot of time searching for stuff.

Some good information in this MSM/SE thread that may be useful to others too: http://www.mazda-speed.com/forum2/index.php/topic,24675.0.html

MT.net has an Adaptronic thread too, http://www.miataturbo.net/adaptronic-63/, but unfortunately it's mostly for the superceded e420c, they're focused primarily on the MegaSquirt (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just not the ECU I have).

Great idea!

I have a very similar setup to you Dave:

  • Adaptronic Select NB8A standalone
  • ID725s
  • Innovate MTX-L
  • Innovate SSI-4 + fuel and oil pressure transducers (these come up in the Adaptronic log as EGT values but can be converted back to voltage easily)
  • MAC valve for boost control
  • Protege 36-1 wheel
  • Toyota coils

I have no foglights but have the foglight switch, so it is wired up to 'Boost 1' (to enable a secondary lower boost level).

2004 NB SE

Adaptronic eSel039 standalone http://www.adaptronic.com.au/product/esel039/

ID1000s

MAC 3 way boost solenoid valve

143rwkw @ 12.7psi, 223Nm

The built in alternator control couldn't keep the voltage high enough with loads on (AC and lights) so the car would intermittently stall when stopped at lights. An NA8 alternator was installed which is self regulating and now the voltage is much more stable and there is no more stalling.

I had the "stalling at lights" issue at one point too but Anthony (from the former Kaizen Garage) fixed it with some tweaks.

If anyone wants my last map, let me know and I'll send it to you.

Mods at that time:
AEM Intake
FM 2.5" complete exhaust
Deatschwerks 600cc injectors
MAC valve

I'm about to hook up a 420c to my 1.6. I noticed that with Megasquirt you have to take out the ST Sign fuse.
Is that the case with the adaptronic or do I leave it in place?
The instructions did not seem to mention it so I presume I leave it in?
thanks

For those running the current adaptronics in an SE (440 I think? there not called that on the adaptronic website??) if you have an obd dongle and torque app/rev etc, can you tell me what parameters you can still read?
My understanding is the IAT is a dummy signal sent from the adaptronic to factory ecu.

I use dashcommand displayed on my pioneer headunit to display a lot of the PIDS (coolant/iat/volts/fuel trim/spark advance etc) be curious to know what is still available with the adaptronic in parallel

The new select (the 440 was the name for the universal of the same generation initially) plugins for the se are no longer a parallel unit as the alternator control is built it I believe.

If you have the parrallel unit check lokiel's build thread as he has a plx multi gauge giving odb outputs but no idea which ones.

You can read OBDII RPM, water temperature, engine load and TPS - actually all the ones you could pre-Adaptronic.

If yours is an e440 Select ECU, the AIT is a dummy value so will remain constant. This will be easy enough to observe via Torque - note the value at night when the car hasn't been running for a few hours, then in the day while the car is running.

FYI: The AIT sensor is the one in the filter and it's not actually used but is reported to the OBDII port. On an SE, the AUX sensor is the important temperature sensor - it's located on the throttle body elbow. Despite the fact that this value is used by the ECU, the OBDII port doesn't report this value - that's how little effort Mazda actually put into the car (hell, they never even bothered to include a boost gauge).

Cool, thanks for the replys!
I'm still on the factory ecu at the moment, just future planning.
I'm assuming that the current adaptronics being a complete full standalone removes all obd functionality as there's no factory ecu plugged in anymore?
So if I wanted to retain obd info I would be best to hook one up in parallel?

Probably best to ask that over on the adaptronic forum. Andy was working on getting the serial output from the adaptronic to work with one of the multi gauge / odb providers, I forget which now though
