Its great to see all the research and thought that you put into it for this rework has come together with great results mate! I’ll be looking forward to the next video when you can cut loose in the dry, champion effort.

Thanks Daffy, glad to see your car is coming back together with the new rear end now. :-)

Well the MX-5 Club of Victoria & Tasmania had the opportunity to visit our interstate friends for some friendly competition. I went along with no intention of doing anything silly, and no high expectations from myself or the car. My number one priority was to bring the car home safely, and hopefully unbroken.

Firstly, some pics:

So at the end of the day I took the car out for one last session. By that time I'd started to get comfortable with the car again and pushed about as hard as I felt safe into the braking zones. Somehow, I found about another half a second improvement on my previous best that I'd set in the session prior to net a 1:02.9. I believe it is a new club lap record for the MX-5 Vic club & also faster than the existing MX-5 NSW club record?

I don't know how the car did it, in the grand scheme of things its putting out a comparatively conservative 300hp. That is perhaps a lot of grunt for an MX-5, but there are MANY MX-5's easily pumping out a lot more grunt. And it runs the same A050 Yokohamas as many other vehicles, so again, there's nothing that outrageous or special about the car.

A huge thanks to the MX-5 Club of NSW for hosting the event, and putting on a wonderfully efficient day. And thanks also to my fellow Victorians for helping bring home a club victory.
Finally, and most importantly, utmost thanks to Beavis senior for acting as crew chief for the weekend.

As is the norm, here is a video of a lap around Wakefield Park. This was my best lap of the day with a 1.02.9 in the Turbo NB.

That is a great time Brendan, well done! I'd hate to see you get more seat time there, and move the goalposts even further!!

When we spoke you weren't that happy with grip levels so it looks like the track improved over course of the day?

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

I know the bar is working well because I hardly noticed a change as a result. :)

Probably a result of a mix of both warmer and grippier track surface (for those playing at home, it was 1degC in the morning!), and a driver getting a little more comfortable with the circuit.

Well done mate, that is a stellar time! Looked like a big turnout too. I need to get along to one of these events soon.

Cheers mate, indeed it was a pretty packed field.

I suppose that's why the supra is not a desirable platform for a circuit car

apparently not! all that being said that car is a really big dollar build.

but the internet will tell you the supra is the best car ever, well the mk iv is the best because it doesn't have an engine from a different manufacturer but we will just skip over the little fact the 2jz is a yamaha designed engine...

I wasn't in attendance on the same day as the Supra.

But hey, what can I say, it seems that a comparatively low powered MX-5 can make for a faster lap time than 800+hp in a supra.... don't be so surprised!

Obviously we are all on this forum because we know MX-5's are good little cars, but it's good to have some lap times to help us all validate that we are in on a good thing.

makes the time seem all the more impressive. i suspect there would have to be some driver gains in their too not just all the car.

what a package though, so cheap when you think what it would cost to get some other cars to that speed.
