At 5000rpm... 400hp.

So in 800rpm the power goes up by 60%

Or another way to look at it: that power jump is the peak power of a stock BP-Z3.

He might do it? Have you talked to Cleveland Exhaust/the guy who films Nugget Garage on YouTube? I read somewhere that he does MS.

I haven't reached out to anyone yet, but I'll keep them in mind too. I will get the car street tuned myself to a safe conservative level, but I would like to visit a pro to check my homework, confirm power and add a little more in a controlled environment.

Hopefully because all I'll need is some VE and timing work it shouldn't be too daunting for a tuner who doesn't like/know MS. They won't have to tune idle, cold starts, accel enrichment, or boost control - all the fiddly, time consuming stuff needed on street cars and that every ECU does slightly differently.

Oil feed leak

Postby The American » Sat Jul 17, 2021 8:49 pm

TBR developed an oil leak on the drivers side, with oil dripping from the turbo oil feed connection at the block. I tightened the fitting which didn’t stop the leak.

I then removed the turbo oil line from the car and redid the fitting on the block end. No more oil dropped from that point, but oil was still coming out somewhere.

Turns out it had been coming from the banjo bolt at the top of the VVT hardline at the back of the head and then dripping onto and running down the oil feed line.

I tried re-torquing the banjo bolt, but no joy, still leaks through the inner crush washer. I’ve now ordered new crush washers to see if that will sort it.

I have no concept of what that will be like to drive. I’d like to experiment with boost-by-gear to help with traction in lower gears.

I had forgotten that (years ago) I had ordered a VVt rebuild kit from Miata Roadster while chasing shadows on the White Mouse. It had turned out there was no problem to fix and so the kit sat unused in the shed.

The kit had a pair of the copper crush washers in it, which I used this morning. Torqued to spec with the new washers, it no longer appears to be leaking. Hooray!

There’s a tiny dribble of coolant coming from near the lower radiator hose to trace, but otherwise everything seems happy.

The catch can is collecting a little water and ethanol (by the smell) but no oil.

Are you driving it yet? Will it be road registered or track only?

Sounds like you've done an excellent job piecing it together, I'm looking forward to hearing more and maybe one day checking it out in person.

Thanks Lachy!

The plan is track only for this car. It is registered at the moment though.

The gear set will be swapped out, coil overs an LSD and some decent brake pads, and then it will be ready for a test. So a bit of time to go yet, unless some bargain parts come up second hand which could speed things up a bit.

If the White Mouse is to step back to street duties, maybe he could donate his bits in the short term? Sounds like WM had a good run recently though

Ah yes! About those bargain parts: It’s crossed my mind more than once that some of the more serious bits could be swapped over, with the bargain bits going on TWM.

The OSG diff for example. Would still want at least a torsen 2 in TWM.

Tuner should be ashamed of that torque curve, it's basically flat!

This will certainly test the PAR gearset when used in competition!

pretty epic!

I imagine it'll be a handful to drive dude. Need some 255s on 10" rims

Wheels are a bit of a puzzle. The tyres I like only come in 205 or 225 in 15” sizes which suit an 8” rim. The brakes I think I’ll need will want 9” or 10” wide rims or 16” or 17” diameter rims.

Currently thinking on priority is:
Brakes > rims > tyres

Do you know what the turbo prodsport people typically using?
