Have a great dodgy day folks. I'm definitely out. Getting a couple of twin camera dashcams hard wired into the new daily drivers on Saturday. :-(

Will bring 2xCobb smokers this time for smoked lamb roast - trying to cook 2 in one smoker took too long last time and had to be completed in "Mrs. Magpies'" oven.

Unfortunately Gina wont be coming so it's just me and Buzz (might actually get to install my reverse parking sensors this time - the power wiring was done when I installed Buzz's Android head unit).

Been having a bit of trouble with selecting gears in traffic (have been lucky enough that I haven't had to do too much stop start city driving before now).

We'll try and get there early tomorrow and have a bit of a chat then maybe head up to SuperCheap.
Guessing a transmission and differential oil change would be a good idea and just trying to read up on changing the oil in the turret (?).
Would I be better to wait until I had some replacement boots ready or should I be ok just opening up and checking?

Would like to adjust/improve my idling too. Thought this was a 'paper clip' reset job but think there might be a screw adjustment now so will do some more investigating.

Still thinking about the 14 degree timing bump ('94 1.8 NA)
Does anyone have an ignition timing light they could bring along?
Currently getting bogged down in this old (2003) (and American) thread http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.ph ... ng+advance
What's the consensus here? 10, 12, 14? (Qld, running on Caltex 95)

I'm out :frown: I've come down with the dreaded man-flu, so I won't be wandering far from home.

Have fun everyone, and enjoy the chicken wings and smoked lamb (so good!)

- pick an y of these Penrite gearbox oils: http://search.supercheapauto.com.au/search?w=penrite%20gear%2090
You only need a 2.5L bottle for the gearbox and I have spare Nulon stuff for your diff.

- replacing turret oil is easy and can be done any time.

- Re timing: when you're on the track, do you rev the engine all the way to redline all the time? If yes, then I'd stick to base timing of 10, maybe go to 12.
If you short-shift before 6,000RPM, or if you simply want to try what a higher advance feels like, then I would even go to 15 or 16 as it will give you more oomph in the low and mid-range and may be quite advantageous at the hill-climb.

16deg BTDC should be ok with 95RON, but any higher I would use 98.

Don't be afraid to try higher advance because the Yanks base their testing on the best average RON they are likely to get, and many places you can't get more than 91RON, so they are always conservative based on lower spec fuel.

Lokiel, this is probably a rhetorical question, do you have a timing light?

How's this for coincidence - eBay Innova Digital Timing Light arrived yesterday (see http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Innova-Digit ... 0887107411).

Still unwrapped so will bring it along.

Thought so 8)

For those who have NA's, inspect your accelerator pedal bracket for any signs of a crack:

Image

This is not an uncommon failure.

I don't think there's anyone who can weld at DD, but if yours is cracking, then we can drill a hole at the end of the crack to stop it from propagating.

I did it just last night and I'm going to get it welded soon in-situ.

From looking at the pedal assembly, and reading what others have done when it's completely broken off, it's a major PITA to remove/replace the bracket so it's something you definitely want to nip in the bud.

I think this issue was addressed in NBs as the bracket has a different design and it appears there's a preformed hole just in case it does arise.

PS: that pic is not of mine btw, as my crack  is only 1cm.

Regarding the timing light: If anyone has White-out/Tippex or a white paint pen, can you please bring it along - makes seeing the timing marks MUCH easier.

Cheers Boys.

Was just thinking about the white paint. It's about the only thing I remember from watching my Dad adjust the timing, many, many years ago.
Not sure I can put my hands on any tonight. Suppose everyone's only going to have black nail polish in their handbags

Will talk about my timing. Might end up that we leave it as is.

Point about the cracked accelerator reminds me that my fuse box bracket has snapped in half. I've just tucked it up under the dash and had forgotten about it.
Will definitely check the pedal bracket.
