Sessions all very close together with running 3 groups, but it definitely maximised the number of laps everybody could run if they felt the need to run every session. It was never going to run quite as smoothly as when Doug was running the show, but still kept it all flowing quite nicely all afternoon. Thanks to Adam and all involved for making it happen.

Track was not particularly quick, but my lack of practice had a larger effect I think. Ended up improving by 0.9 seconds on both Clubman and Sprint, compared to last time I ran which was before the aero parts, about 100 laps of Lakeside ago, on the old A1RM brake pads, and before the new alignment. Down to 64.3 seconds on Clubman, 61.4 on Sprint, and I finally ran National for the first time and put down a 1:29.4. Unfortunately it turns out that if you use wifi to wake the GoPro (to watch your off-track excursion and turn 2), it switches one-button record mode back off. Since I did use wifi after the last Clubman session, I didn't get any footage of my Sprint sessions.

I also drove Kirk's supercharged NB8B in the third Sprint session, just to see what it could do. Best time of 62.7 on sprint, taking it easyish through T1 and T2, and all braking zones. AD08Rs, MCA X-C coilovers and oem brakes are quite capable for a few laps, before I cooked the brakes coming into the crossover and returned to pits. The speedo was showing 195-200kmh on the front straight before braking early for T1, takes off very well out of T6 and pulls all the way through to redline. Sometimes a bit of power is nice.

I was impressed by Thane in one of the orange 86s, especially considering it was his first time at QR. He set some very quick times, even for having ~170rwkw at his disposal. Going to be very, very quick when he gets some more practice. It's just a shame he lives 2000km from any tracks, and only gets down here occasionally.

Clubman 64.3:

National 1:29.4:

And a clip of the brakes after a Sprint session. Didn't fade, so I'm guessing it's rubber chunks melting on the inside of the wheel. Still, looks like I'm working hard :)

Yeah, I was just driving for fun in the last session. I was in two minds about heading out (had a medical appointment back in town at 6, hence having to leave before the National session) and was up the other end of pit lane when the call came. Made a last minute call to head out and ended up one short of the end of the queue so dropped the roof for a bit of fun. I had Clayton behind so did a lap showing him my lines, and then set about chasing Zoe down who had put a bit of a gap on me - we had a pretty decent battle over the last two laps. I had a massive traction advantage but those 86s are just that little bit stronger in a straight line. Ended the day with a smile on the dial.

Woooo fun arvo! Smashed my PB on Clubman and set a new one for myself - 1:11.37. I am starting to see where my time will be best spent on improvements now (the habit of not bothering to look for a good line before barrelling through a corner...... )

Didn't get to say goodbye to everyone that I wanted to. Clutch started playing up in the third session so I bowed out and went home.

I haven't looked at my camera footage yet, but I should have some good angles of a few people! Especially a certain little red NA playing in the dirt........

Ross - you just wanted DUST to go as fast as Thane! I see he was back at QR again today but it appears the day sadly ended early :(

Yes, sad to hear of another fatality at qr. Media are reporting as though the crash was the cause of death, when it's much more likely that he had a heart attack and that's why he ran straight forward at t5.

Photo in JBT's link shows what I'm pretty sure is a Mk 1 Escort with a bit of a push-in on the front end but certainly nothing suggestive of a life-threatening impact. Had a little dig around and I'm pretty sure I've identified who the driver is, and looks like he's been around for a long time, a very experienced club racer. I'd be inclined to think medical. It was quite a way up turn 5, too. Sad, but there's the old cliche about going out doing something you love I guess. RIP.
