Lakeside "Notta Grand Prix"

Postby Lokiel » Thu Oct 19, 2017 6:03 pm

This looks like it could be a hell of a lot of fun:

https://qldraceways.com.au/competition/notta-grand-prix

- especially if I was aware of this a few months earlier (would be fun to get a team together for a “Skinflints” build).

Will try and get to it regardless.

Here's the cu&pasted web text for those who don't like cross-links:

Introduction of Notta Grand Prix

What’s it about? The purpose of the Notta Grand Prix is to have family fun on wheels in a safer environment than the road. It has been designed to a price-point where it is easily affordable. Notta Grand Prix is available to all members of the public from the age of 12. Road registered cars can be used and are welcome. Come on, you can get your wife & kids involved and help them develop the right attitude to recreational motoring in this family oriented event.

The Entry Fee is $990 per Vehicle for each event and a Team will consist of between four and six drivers per Vehicle.

Anybody who takes this Event too seriously should not consider entering the Event. Check out the trophies & you’ll see what we mean. Notta Grand Prix is like a long distance-regularity and not an out-and-out race. With this parameter, Drivers will only need a RACERS Clubman Licence to play in these events. Notta Grand Prix is expected to provide an activity for multiple generations in a family and a “Race With Your Mates” team building exercise for groups from a Participants place of work or clubs.

The challenge for each team is to get as far as they can, as soon as they can; for as little as they can, all against a minimum lap time of 70 seconds. Big powerful cars will need more pit stops which, at 7 minutes each, will almost certainly mean the well dríven economical cars will have a definite advantage.

Format of the Series:

There will be a series of 4 special Saturday only events which consist of 6 hours of track time at Lakeside Park. No other categories will be attending these meetings. The format and content of this Event is different from anything that has been done before so please read on. Entrants could think of it as a 24-hour race with a LOT of time for repairs.

Vehicle Eligibility:

Vehicles must be based on mass-produced, four-wheeled vehicles that were legal for Registration in Australia at the time of their manufacture. Vehicles must meet the minimum requirements displayed in the RACERS manual. Open top cars must have race-worthy roll over protection.

Total Investment

We would suggest that a maximum of $4000 should be spent on the vehicle. This is a cheap car challenged and any vehicle purchases and parts purchases should be made with that in mind.

Safety Equipment

All equipment and Apparel must meet the relevant SFI specifications and you must have the minimum requirements specified in Appendix B Category 2 of the RACERS Operations Manual

Driver Apparel

This is covered by Appendix B Section which sets out the minimum requirement for Drivers to compete in a race. To save money the Apparel can be swapped between drivers in the team to reduce the cost of each driver having to have their own apparel. Appendix B Section which sets out the minimum requirement for Drivers to compete in a race. To save money the Apparel can be swapped between drivers in the team to reduce the cost of each driver having to have their own apparel.

Race suits & other apparel and equipment can be hired from QR at an extremely reasonable price. Due to the availability of rental gear we recommend to book in the required equipment through 1800 RACEWAYS as soon as you can.

Drivers Radio

It is a requirement that every driver on the circuit has a working Race Radio. This is required for safety and traffic management so Race control can advise the driver of incidents and penalties. Drivers Radios are available for purchase or hire from QR.

Noise Limit.

At Lakeside Park the noise limit for a Vehicle is 90dB at 5 metres. Lakeside has an active monitoring system, if you are recorded as breaching this system; then you will be called in and required to modify your vehicle to meet this requirement before re-joining the event.

Tyres

Only one set of tyres per Event is permitted without a penalty. Tyres must be roadworthy i.e. have at least 1.5mm tread depth all across the face of the tyre and be free from any significant cuts in the sidewalls. Tyres must be Street legal. Type R street legal track type tyres are not permitted. QR can supply hard wearing street tyres for $80 per tyre pre-booked by calling 1800 RACEWAYS.

Wheels

Mag Wheels are permitted. The Diameter must be no more than 2" above the standard wheel diameter. The wheels must not protrude out past the bodywork.

How the Event is run:

07:30 Gates open and pit setup can begin.

09:15 pit exit will open, and cars go out onto the track any time they choose before 12:30

09:30 the timing system will begin counting laps.

12:30 timing will cease and pit exit will be closed.

13:15 pit exit will open, and cars will be free to go out onto the track at any time after that

13:30 the timing system will resume counting laps

16:30 timing will cease and pit exit will be closed

16:35 all cars must be back in the carports

17:00 all challenges will be in the hat for drawing, sausages will be available along with cold beverages.

17:30 the process of drawing challenges from the hat will commence and immediately followed by trophies.

Minimum Driving Age Requirements

The Minimum age is 12 at the date of the race. Clubman licenses are available for purchase for an annual fee of $65 or a single event only licence is available for $20. See www.racers.world for more details.

Driver Duties

Every driver must spend at least 50 minutes at the wheel during the event. Because the minimum Pit stop time is 7minutes and every Team must make a minimum of 2 stops in each session. NOTE: there is no point putting in a big fuel cell to get an advantage as you are still required to stop every hour.

Conduct during Pit stops

When coming in the Pits your minimum stop time is 7 minutes. There is no rushing in the pits as you have seven minutes to do a fuel and/or driver change. Any regular mechanical work may be done during a pit stop except when refuelling is occurring. Before re-entering the circuit, the Driver will receive a code word over the Race Radio from Race Control and must relay this to the Marshall to gain entry to the circuit.

Mechanical Work

There is no maximum number crew members permitted to attend to a vehicle during Pit Stops.

If repairs or adjustments are required underneath the car, jack stands must be in place before any team member puts any part of their body under the Vehicle.

Refuelling

All refuelling of the vehicle must be carried out in the area designated as the Refuel Zone under the supervision of the Fire Marshalls.

The vehicle must be stationary at all times during refuelling.

No servicing of the car may take place until refuelling has been completed.

Pit area Speed Limit

The maximum speed in the pit area is 10 km/h

Minimum Lap Time

There is not much point building a car that can go around Lakeside in much less than 70 seconds as we will deduct one lap from your score for every second or part thereof that you go under the 70-second limit. Yes, Dorothy, 69.9999 seconds will cost you a full lap. Any more than ten (10) minus laps in 10 minutes you will be sent back to the pit bay to be beaten up by the rest of your team

An MX5 entry with a hairdressers team theme would seem appropriate for this event.

I thought this was limited to $1000 purchase price... must have been removed from the regs. Previously MX5 were not a possibility due that limitation.

You may be thinking of the very similar format '24 hours of Lemons' series.

4k is far more sensible. Means more reliable cars. Personally a 1.6t crappie shell, big turbo and e85 would be hilarious. Far less money than a beat up mx5.
