QLD Convoy to Natmeet 2010

Postby jncook » Fri Oct 02, 2009 6:18 pm

Hi All,
I have just found this thread. Is your plan still to go through Coonabarabran? NSW always convoys to Natmeet for those who have the time. One time Q'land hooked up with us in Sydney and we went the long way I think it was to Adelaide last time. It was fun, and started the event off very well! I haven't spoken to anyone around here so I don't know what is being planned if anything. We are heading down the South Coast this weekend, so will talk to a few people then. It would be good if we did manage to hook up with you at Coonabarabran and carry on the rest of the way together. We try and arrive on the Thursday night, which gives plenty of time to wash the car and settle in before everyone else arrives.
I will get back to you all after the weekend! Hope the rain says away!

There are two groups that I know of going from Qld. This is the plan for our group of 9 or 10 cars:

Tuesday 30 Mar: Brissie - Gilgandra
Wednesday 31 Mar: Gilgandra - Hay
Thursday 1 Apr: Hay - Nuriootpa. Clean car and clothes
Good Friday 2 Apr: Nuriootpa - McLaren Vale. Short run but touristy opportunities down through the Barossa and Adelaide hills etc.

I think the other group is going earlier but I have no idea of route and timings.

Well the time for Natmeet is rapidly approaching and the 17 NSW/ACT cars & crew have started to plan the various routes to Adelaide with some leaving early and going via the coast and some the “fast” way via Hay.

Being one who likes to get where I’m going fast, myself and a few others will be staying in Hay on the Wednesday night (31/3) so if the QLD boys are there we can meet up and have a beer or two.

From there we will be taking the fast route to McLaren Vale staying there on the Thursday night.

Homeward bound for me will be via Coonawarra, Port Fairy, GOR, Beechworth, Rutherglen. A mixture of sight seeing and wine tasting.

Can do Andrew when we lock it down I'll send you an e-mail and find where your staying in Sydney.

We will probably have a couple of meeting points along the way.
My basic thinking at the moment is leaving Sydney early on the Wednesday 31st (6:30??? M5 Beverly Hills). Have a pick up point say at Pheasant’s Nest Mobil servo (7:15??) or Shell @ Sally's corner (7:40??), then on to the big twin servo's after Goulburn and have some brekkie around 9:00ish, possibly pick up the Canberra crew in Yass an hour later, then onto to Wagga to pick up our Vice Prez who's there visiting family.

Gosh, Darn and Dang It... :(

I need to be in Sydney on the Wednesday so I was planning to set off early Thursday morning and overnight in Balranald, then taking the Punt at Wellington and coming in the back way to MacLaren Vale mid Friday. There's nothing scheduled for Friday in the program other than the registration and BBQ dinner, so there's no great hurry to be there Friday morning - at least from my perspective anyway.

So unless anyone else is planning to leave on Thursday morning, it looks like Snow White will be on her todd.

I'll be leaving from Kent Street in the city.

Thanks for the positive response though.

That's no good. It's a long way to travel solo. I'll find out if someone is heading down on the Thursday and if so give you their contact number.

Why not try and reschedule your Wednesday event to the day before? It's worth a try.

Oh and you'll be the only white SP there as Troy isn't going.

cheers,

Phil

Travelling solo isn't an issue, I'll be with the BOV and I've done the trip previously in a 240Z & once in a HZ Premier wagon. It's just not as much fun, but it might be slightly quicker not having so many stop-offs. Not to worry. The Wednesday commitment is firm, and unfortunately, not negotiable, so Thursday it is for me.

...Who's Troy? I thought Casey (from Canberra) had the only other White SP... or is Casey a pseudonym?

Yep.

Haven't seen him at the track for almost 18 months now but he's still a member of the Club.
