Total sales for the 12 months from May 2015 to April 2016 is 1610 ... and the ND still has another three months to go before a full year is up. That's already better than the first 12 months of NC sales (1564 for Oct 2005 to Sep 2006). The ND should comfortably beat the 1764 sales peak of the NB (May 1998 to April 1999).

Total sales for the 12 months from Aug 2015 to Jul 2016 is 1910! The ND has smashed the first 12 months of NC sales (1564 for Oct 2005 to Sep 2006), and NB sales (1764 for May 1998 to Apr 1999). I don't have monthly figures for NA but there were 621 sales in 1989 (Oct onwards) and 1446 in 1990, so the first 12 months was probably about 1654 ( (621+1446)/(15/12) ).

Mazda MX-5 was the 5th best selling "Sports Car under $80,000" in 2016, behind Ford Mustang – 6208 (up from 121 of 2015), Hyundai Veloster – 2232 (down from 2685), BMW 2 Series Coupe/Convertible – 2159 (up from 1902), and Toyota 86 – 2068 (down from 3006).

ND 1577 (2016) has sold better than all previous MX-5 generations in their first full calendar year: NA 1446 (1990), NB 1310 (1998), NC 1468 (2006). The arrival of the RF should boost sales into 2017 too.

Note following are USDM Miata NA colours:
MAZDA MX-5 MIATA PAINT COLORS
This info comes from a site called PaintScratch.com, sellers of touch-up kits and paint packages that match original factory colors. All that's been done is compiled the paint codes for each year - it's up to you to check your car and see what matches.
You can find your color by simply opening up your driver door and, on the info sticker on the door jamb, looking for a two- or three-digit paint code.
There are some other special colors listed (late additions, limited-production, etc.) that I don't yet have codes for, or that I'm unsure of the code number for. They're listed "as-is" for the time being.

No problem - we were all once new to the MX5 & had to learn (& keep learning) about them.
Btw, if you find an MX5 Clubman that you're interested in buying, let us know as we may know the car.

Just going on those figures alone the first model NA6s had the sportiest handling (lowest FRC of 58.9%) then they got progressively worse from there until you got a Toyota Corolla-like 66.9% with the stock NB. :D

PS divide lb/in by 55.88 to convert to Kg/mm

Interesting.

From the information provided sales peak for each new model in the second year of that model and then decrease year upon year, until the next release.

The obvious way for Mazda to pull back this decline in sales is to release a new model each year.
