MX5 SE wiring diagram - help please..

Postby BISCUITS » Fri Aug 19, 2016 9:05 am

Hello all,

How do i get the wiring diagram for my SE so we can check / wire in an aftermarket ECU please?

I spent thousands of dollars on a fully rebuilt / forged-internals rebuild with _____________ in Brisbane and unfortunately was surprised that they couldn't help me out (maybe they've never done any electrical work on an SE..). I was going to ask my local Mazda dealer but i doubt i would have much luck there.

If anyone can urgently help out would be very much appreciated..
Thanks in advance.

p.s.build (to date) is - forged internals, 28/60R turbo, AVO upgraded intercooler kit, NPC performance clutch, Vipec engine management, AEM intake, SMB exhaust system, etc..

Which ECU are you using?

Here's a link to PDF's of all the 04' NB workshop manuals....
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... 0xSNGVXMzA

You'll find the wiring diagram down the bottom.

But I think you've helped him with the wiring

OP, sounds like an interesting build. Keep us updated with progress please.

Why the Vipec ECU?
It's an unusual choice for an MX5 where Adaptronic, Haltech and Megasquirt ECUs are the more obvious/supported choices.
If it was recommended by your builder/tuner because that's the ECU they're familiar with, that's a good enough reason.

Please start a build thread documenting this build, I'm curious to see how the Vipec ECU works out.

Thank you very much Nevyn72 for your prompt response. I'll send to my tuner ASAP to check my SE's wiring. Car is getting picked up from the exhaust shop today and after wiring checks are done, start-up / tune shouldn't be too far away. Shame we are limited to 200 rear wheel kW regardless though (due to "only" a standard head gasket was used)..

The vipec is an exceptionally good high end ecu.

Vipec is wired in / just got SE back and running in new engine at the moment (restricted to 7psi during running-in).
Cannot wait to see how it all pans out after full tune / boost.. :D

Normally most mechanics will farm out any electrical work so the response is not unexpected.

However I would expect the tuner to be familiar or at least have access to wiring diagrams for the ECU's that they support/recommend.

Anyway good news on having the car tuned

Hi,
The engine builder was a big name one in Brisbane; so that's why i was surprised when they said they couldn't help me with my SE wiring diagram (as they're supppsed to be MX5 specialists). Anyway, unless i am really stuck for something next time, i may not be going back there with my business..
On a brighter side, i am eager to rack these engine run-in kilometers up as soon as possible now. I've missed having an MX5 for so long and one in the vicinity of 200 rear wheel kW should be fun. :D
Thanks..

Personally I would buy a manual that had the wiring diagram included, will also help with other tasks as well.

http://www.mx5mania.com.au/product1258.htm
As you can see factory manuals are not cheap, hence why I would not expect a business to give the information away.

When I Automotive Plus looked after my 800M (subsequently destroyed by one of my children who borrowed it) I kept a full set of factory manuals with it because not to many people knew how to work on them, they were very complicated especially the vacuum lines and electrics. I was lucky in that Jason at Automotive Plus actually worked on 800M's when he worked for Mazda, notwithstanding he did appreciate having the manuals to look at if needed. Reminds me I need to find another 800M.

Appreciate your response..
I spent thousands on the forged rebuild of my SE with the engine builder and so was surprised this forum helped me with a wiring diagram in no time at all / no worries.
The SE is all wired and i am running it in now; so all good. Thanks for the reply.. :D

I drop in and out from the site / forum; depending on if i own an MX5. However, I have made some good friends here that i keep in touch with even when i don't own a MX5. Every time i sell one, I miss it and end up buying one again..
Cheers..
