Have you checked the tension on the drive belts? If the timing belt was replaced then there's a good chance the belt that drives the alternator isn't quite as tight as it needs to be. It happens first start in the morning because that is the start that puts the most load on the battery and therefore the alternator to recharge the battery. It's an easy fix if that's the problem. But don't let it go to long or you will glaze the inside of the belt and it will squeal no mater how much tension you put on it.

If not the drive belt/s, then it might be hydraulic lifter assembly noise, if so change the engine oil.

Hi there the workshop have just change the engine oil and new driving belts include the fan belts but the noise seems to be still there?? Is it because maybe that didn't put the tension on it?? Cheers. Is it possible I could tight them up myself??

New belts often stretch in the first few days and then start squealing on start-up. You could just take it back to the workshop. It should take them 5 minutes. Otherwise you can do it yourself. Suggest you download the NA6 factory workshop manual at http://www.mediafire.com/?7ab5bsnenws155k Password is bcotton.

99% of it applies to an NA8 as well. Drive belt checking/adjustment is on pp 299-300.

Spanner/s.

Again, if noise persists after belts are correctly adjusted, the NA6 & NA8 (which both had HLA) can be a little fussy about oil as they age, but a number of forumites have used Nulon Lifter Free successfully.
