Mx5 SE 1 to 1 gear

Postby mk » Tue May 26, 2020 3:06 pm

Just wondering what would be the 1.1 ratio (what gear) it would be on stock SE
I’m assuming that the 6 speed is the same ratio as others and know that they run 3.6 diff ratio
Thanks Peter

5th is your 1:1 gear.

Yes, the SE transmission is the same ratio as the other NB 6-speeds, and a 3.6 diff in the back as per the others, but its got different axles and all SE diffs are LSDs.

There's some talk about stronger internals in the SE 'box, shot-peened gears or something. But I personally don't believe it, I have never seen evidence of it, and have heard of them breaking at about the same point as normal NB 6-speeds.

Thanks for the fast response
So even with the 3.6 diff ratio 5 is still 1 to 1

It is 1:1 between the gearbox input and output shafts, not between the input shaft and the driveshafts. That is, gearbox ratios.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)
