The wastegate actuator even opens the wastegate, but I think I might put a lighter spring in it, at least to start with.

The downpipe allows about 60 degrees of movement of the wastegate flapper which is enough to get it right up and away from the seat.

All in all, for my combination of parts, this manifold will lead to a more straightforward installation.

The turbo brace bracket bolts to the bottom of the block using provided bolts and pre-existing threaded holes, including two which hold the forward edge of the passenger side engine mount to the block.

The adjustable length brace or prop connects to the installed bracket at one end, and a tapped hole in the bottom of the downpipe flange at the other (hard to get an installed photo of this)

Downpipe fit is very good, with even placement in the 3D space available.

Looking at the shallow space behind the wastegate you would have to assume significant disruption of main turbine exit flow when the wastegate is open.

The new manifold looks nice.
I ended up cutting my rail flap but left all the spot welds. Gave me the clearance I needed for my t28.

Put an oxygen sensor bung in the kit exhaust and did a wrap with some bits I had from another job.

Reworked my coolant reroute to clear the manifold and turbo flange.

Getting closer to being able to get some fluids in it and running again - but still plenty of pipework to do for the intercooler and exhaust.

Very neat install - the coolant pipe rework would not have been easy.

I was going to go N/A with my engine build(slow progress there), but when I see such tidy manifolds/dumps as yours the turbo temptation is fierce. Your intercooler mount pics are helpful, I wasn't sure how to mount mine and that bracket is a good solution.

Curious to why you went with td04 style flange when you bought a gtx2860rs?

There is many ways to skin a cat.

I bracketed my cooler per the attached pics. I've also utilized factory bolt hole locations.

My cooler actually fits into the plastic grill section and is plenty big enough for a mx5 at 600x140x63mm for the core.

But like I say, there is many right ways.

Guess I wanted to keep the space clear should I ever want to reinstall the air con condenser.

There are lots of manifold choices for NA6 cars. There are far fewer choices for NA8+ motors. It seems that in England where NA MX5's are really cheap that people want to do turbo conversions at low cost. Getting a basically discarded Subaru turbo which is pretty well sized for 'turboing' a stock MX5 motor is a great start for a cheap conversion. These manifolds cater to this conversion. On looking around, I found that there is a great variety of 'stock replacement' turbos for WRX, due to their long production time and popularity for modification. The WRX style 3 bolt manifold outlet thus has plenty of turbo choices, either Subaru factory or aftermarket. In the Taiwanese brand if purchased, the GTX2860RS is available in WRX 3 bolt inlet (not strictly the standard TD04/5/6 3 bolt inlet you would regularly see on eg Evos), T25 inlet and T3 inlet. I just got the WRX style inlet to match the manifold. It was actually cheaper than a standard T25 inlet style!

Cheers, Omar

Some stuff going on in real life, but got a bit of stuff done over the last couple of weeks. Got some mandrel bends and tube in 2 1/2" and made these
20170220_211231.jpg

Then gave them to a mate who made them look like this

Then took them to my excellent local speed shop Tas Performance Warehouse and they made them look like this

Added some accessories like

Then put them all in place under the car
20170303_184418.jpg

And in the engine bay, using the fact I don't have fold down lights to simplify and shorten my I/C pipe run
20170303_192602.jpg

Pipes and wires running free, but now it starts and runs. Fair amount of smoke off the new turbo as it heated up. I let it warm up properly for a heat cycle. I'll go back to it on the weekend and tighten everything up. Looking forward to driving it soon!

thanks for the explain on the gt2860.
Very neat intercooler plumbing - your whole build is top notch. Will be great on the road

So so close now. Im impressed with how neat it is.

Your going to love it!

This is really a build thread now.
Maybe you should have the title changed and move it to the garage section with all the others.

Would like to see more pics of the exterior of the car when you get the time :)

Ummmmm. You can do that? Do I have to ask an administrator or can I 'self serve'? I was thinking it was getting to be a bit of a build thread.
