Max Boost SP

Postby roshmx5 » Thu Mar 09, 2017 9:46 am

Hi Members what is the maximum Boost I can set a dual stage Boost controller to on my NB SP. It has a stock engine and ECU.
I want it safe and will only be going to the higher Boost settings for overtaking cars and an occasional squirt.
I have done the T mod, modification.

It doesnt really work like that. You need to get it onto a dyno to test and find out. The tune on the ecu is absolute garbage and every SP is different. I wouldn't just turn it up and cross my fingers.

roshmx5, you might already be aware, but if not, a few SPs have bent conrods over the years:

Thanks 93 my gut feeling this morning was not to do this mod. That's why I asked here. I have done the T Mod and the car is quick. My actuator is working fine. My Boost gauge a mechanical one from the manifold is being a bit erratic. Sometimes shows 7, sometimes 10 and even went up to 15psi. It has just been installed so will let it settle down a bit. It's a Speco so may get a VDO one if it keeps doing this.

If you're boost is fluctuating that much I'd take the t-piece out.
What was the car reading before the mod?

Fluctuating readings on your boost guage can be fixed by plumbing in a simple plastic fuel filter somewhere along the vacuum tube. That made my readings still and consistent on my rx7t IP.

Thanks guys I bought a VDO gauge today. Will install it tomorrow just from looking at it, it seems 200% better quality including the line kit which has a filter that stops fluctuating.

How did you go with the new Gauge roshmx5?

my boost gauge take the reading from the lower left side of the Intake manifold and reads 0.5 bar which converts to about 7.25psi.

I've heard standard max boost tends to vary through different sp's

Hi mate sorry for the late reply. I had to take T Mod off. Hooked my Boost gauge into manifold and it reads 8psi. No spiking at all. Not sure what was happening with the T piece mod. Bit disappointed as loved the gain from the T piece mod. But dont want to cause damage.
